Type:

Dark brown, medium-size hawk with noticeable forked tail while in flight. Often found in flocks of 100s to 1000s, principally a scavenger and will take advantage of human activity by hunting near tips, campgrounds, firefronts etc.

Mostly in northern and inland Australia; also found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Range expanding eastward in NSW.
