Type:

A fierce, agile hawk of the forests and woodlands, with long legs and rounded tail. Hunts birds, mammals (eg young rabbits), reptiles, insects. 


Tropical subspecies: Accipiter didimus (smaller)

Found throughout most of Australia and in Papua New Guinea, the Solomons and New Caledonia.
