Type:

A small, fierce lightly built hawk. Slender feet with middle toe projecting beyond the neighbouring toes. Feeds mostly on small birds but will take lizards, insects and occasionally small mammals.

Found throughout most of Australia, is generally uncommon but more common in tropical and subtropical forests.
