The Eastern Osprey is a large aquatic hawk with long angular wings, dense plumage and a large oil gland. It plunges into water to hunt, powerful feet outstretched - a reversible outer toe and rough pads (spicules) catch and hold its primary prey, fish. Also takes crustaceans, reptiles, small mammals and birds.
Mainly coastal estuaries; sometimes far inland, along rivers and lakes.
